Certified Diabetes Management Center
If you have diabetes, you know how challenging it can be to manage your disease. Healthy eating, physical activity, monitoring your condition, taking medication and reducing your risk for complications are probably part of your daily routine. At times, all of this might seem overwhelming.
The Wilson Medical Diabetes Management Center is here to help you navigate the ins and outs of a diabetes diagnosis. Monthly classes are available.
Program education covers the following topics:
• Diabetes overview
• Healthy ways to cope with diabetes
• Physical activity
• Blood glucose monitoring.
• Prevention, detection and treatment of acute and chronic complications
• Foot, skin and dental care
• Behavior change strategies, goal setting, risk factor reduction and problem solving
Most insurance plans, including Medicare, provide a benefit that covers our diabetes education classes. The hospital can verify your benefits prior to attending the first class. A referral from your physician is required prior to enrolling in our program.
Classes are taught by Rachael Shinkle, a registered dietician and certified diabetes educator. Rachael has a unique skill set and serves as essential support for patients and providers. She believes her role is both teacher and coach, giving you the knowledge and skills you need to understand your diabetes in the context of your personal life. She will work with you to set-and meet-behavior change goals to improve your health.
