Wilson Medical Center is proud to announce the return of a familiar face to its growing team of providers. Alishia Waggoner, APRN-C, has joined Independence Family Medicine, where she will partner alongside longtime patient favorite Mardie Long, APRN, to continue delivering trusted, compassionate care to the community.

A Southeast Kansas native, Waggoner brings both advanced clinical training and heartfelt hometown values to her new role. After earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Pittsburg State University, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing from Walden University in 2024. Her education was enhanced by a 10-month clinical residency with the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, in partnership with Pittsburg State University, providing her with extensive hands-on experience in primary care and rural medicine.

Waggoner is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and licensed by the Kansas State Board of Nursing, bringing a full spectrum of services to patients of all ages. Her areas of care include acute and chronic illnesses such as hypertension, diabetes, COPD, as well as women’s health, adult and pediatric mental health, obesity and weight loss management, and Medicare annual wellness exams. She also provides sports physicals, pre-employment physicals, and routine wellness exams for both children and adults, including Kan Be Healthy screenings.

“Alishia has always been a part of the WMC family. From her early days working in our IT department to this exciting return as a provider,” said Adam Gall, Director of Clinic Operations. “We’re thrilled to see her career come full circle and even more excited for our patients to benefit from her dedication and skill.”

Waggoner officially joins Independence Family Medicine on August 4 and is now accepting new patients. Her addition expands access to comprehensive primary care in the region and reinforces Wilson Medical Center’s mission to provide high-quality care close to home.

When she’s not in the clinic, Waggoner is a busy wife and mother. She enjoys staying active, spending time outdoors, and leading by example to live a healthy, balanced life.
