Celebrating fresh leadership while honoring the steadfast service of Michelle Bohannon, RN

When you walk the halls of Wilson Medical Center, you can feel it: a culture stitched together by compassion, collaboration, and world-class expertise. That spirit gains new energy this summer as Jordan Giefer, BSN, steps into the role of Director of Nursing (DON)—bringing her trademark blend of clinical excellence and heart-centered leadership to every bedside.

Jordan first joined Wilson Medical Center in July 2024 as Director of Case Management, Utilization Review, and Swing Bed Coordinator. Her résumé spans the ICU, the operating room, and clinical management, yet her colleagues know her just as well for spontaneous morale-boosting notes, quick laughter, and an unwavering commitment to patient advocacy. A 2015 graduate of Emporia State University, Jordan earned her Bachelor’s in Nursing and Rehabilitation Education Services before launching a career defined by “yes, we can” teamwork.

Away from scrubs and stethoscopes, Jordan finds joy planting zinnias under the Kansas sun, hunting for quirky treasures no one really needs, and keeping pace with two energetic kiddos on their family’s rural homestead. Those moments recharge a leader who firmly believes “culture starts at the top”—and who is devoted to ensuring Wilson’s nurses feel supported, empowered, and endlessly proud of their craft.

A standing ovation for Michelle Bohannon, RN

Jordan’s appointment follows a year of steadfast guidance from Michelle Bohannon, RN, whose service as Interim DON ran alongside her long-standing post as Director of Quality, Risk & Compliance. Michelle’s fingerprints are on nearly every milestone Wilson has achieved over the past two decades, and her leadership through this transition has been nothing short of exemplary.

“Michelle has been the engine behind our pursuit of excellence,” says Tom Hood, CEO of Wilson Medical Center. “For more than 20 years she has raised the bar for patient safety and quality, and over the last year she carried the torch as Interim DON with grace, grit, and an unfailing dedication to our people. We are profoundly grateful for her leadership and thrilled that she’ll continue guiding quality, risk, and compliance until her well-deserved retirement in September.”
