Biography:
A Neodesha Native Provides Mental Health Specialty at Wilson Medical CenterGerald K. Gentry, Ph.D. - licensed psychologist - provides outpatient clinical, child, and forensic psychology services one weekend a month at the Wilson Medical Center. Dr. Gentry received his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Kansas in 1977. He has 20 years of inpatient treatment experience, including 13 years as the Chief Psychologist at Osawatomie State Hospital. Dr. Gentry's extensive professional background enables him to provide individual psychotherapy to all age groups, as well as couples therapy and family therapy.
Dr. Gentry has a decade of regulatory experience - first as a gubernatorial appointee to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board, then as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB). During his term as ASPPB President, Dr. Gentry traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada, as well as representing ASPPB at professional conferences in England, Mexico, and Norway. He dealt with such issues as reciprocity, teletherapy, and protection of the public.
Dr. Gentry has provided expert testimony in state, military, and federal courts on matters ranging from child custody to capital murder. He has consulted with the Department of Justice on several recent cases involving human sex trafficking. Gentry is a member of the Cadre of Experts, Task Force on Trafficking of Women and Girls for the American Psychological Association.
A 1965 graduate of Neodesha High School, Dr. Gentry has been treating clients from throughout southeast Kansas for the past 16 years. He divides his time in Neodesha between his clinical work and managing the family farm - part of the land homesteaded by his maternal great-grandparents (M/M William Hicks) in the 1860s. Although he and his wife have resided in Olathe for 37 years, Gentry said he is reminded as he approaches Neodesha each month that there's no place like home.
