Dr. Joe Meier began practicing family medicine at Wilson Medical Center's two rural health clinics - Neodesha Family Medicine and Cherryvale Family Medicine - in September 2019. He is a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine and is a board-certified family physician.

Dr. Meier is very familiar with rural communities and their medical needs. His hometown is Larned, Kansas, where his mother worked as a nurse in their local Emergency Room. He loved visiting her at the hospital and treasured the time he was allowed to observe a certain inspiring young physician; one who allowed him to examine x-rays and talk about medicine. He also felt a strong sense of inspiration and purpose for his life as he watched ambulances arrive and leave - he was hooked!

At the age of 16, he began volunteering with the local EMS (Emergency Medical Services). By age 18, he was an EMT, and - at the age of 21 - he had graduated to the level of a paramedic. He moved to Southeast Kansas where he worked as a firefighter and paramedic for 14 years in the Cherryvale and Coffeyville area, before becoming a physician. While working as a paramedic and during his time in medical school, he found that he loved Family Medicine. "Working with many amazing Family Medicine Providers made me realize it was the perfect fit for me," stated Dr. Meier. "The spectrum of medicine that we cover is intense and challenging; it fits my personality."

Dr. Meier's training in Alternative and Integrative Medicine allows for treatment of the whole person; something that is not currently offered to patients in our area. His fun, upbeat and positive personality helps to put patients at ease.

Dr. Meier served over 15 years in the Navy Reserve and has worked and volunteered at all levels of emergency services. Dr. Meir's values and work ethic come from his grandfather; the person who taught him small-town values, hard work, honor, and commitment. He also developed a sense of integrity, the art of going above and beyond, and a passion for helping others from his grandfather's teachings. "It is an honor to be entrusted to guide, anchor, and empower patients to determine their plan of care" states Dr. Meier.
