This Month, We Celebrate Getting Back to What Matters Most. Happy Occupational Therapy Month!
Inpatient Physical, Occupational, & Speech Therapy at Our Rehabilitation Center
At Wilson Medical Rehabilitation Center, our licensed therapists provide personalized, one-on-one physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy for patients admitted to the hospital. Services are available for acute care patients and those participating in swing bed program.
The swing bed program offers extended rehabilitation services for patients transitioning from hospital care back to home. With therapy services available six days a week patients receive consistent support focused on restoring function, improving mobility, and promoting long-term independence.
Diagnostic Study for Uncovering Issues with Swallowing Difficulties
At Wilson Medical Rehabilitation Center, our Barium Swallow and Modified Barium Swallow Studies are powerful diagnostic tools used to evaluate how well you swallow and to uncover the underlying causes of swallowing difficulties (dysphagia).
During the study, you’ll be asked to swallow liquids and foods mixed with a safe contrast agent called barium while a real-time X-ray (fluoroscopy) captures detailed images of your mouth, throat, and esophagus as you swallow. This allows our specialists to assess the motion and coordination of your swallowing muscles and identify issues such as aspiration (food or liquid entering the airway), structural abnormalities, or inefficient swallow mechanics that could put you at risk for complications like choking or pneumonia.

These studies are especially helpful for patients experiencing coughing or choking during meals, unexplained weight loss, or neurological conditions that can affect swallowing function. Insights from the study guide our rehabilitation team in crafting personalized treatment plans, recommending safe diet strategies, and targeting therapy that improves swallowing safety and quality of life. To learn more about how a swallow study can help you or a loved one, call our Rehabilitation Services team at 620-325-2253 — we’re here to answer your questions and support every step of your care journey.
