Radiology Inspires the Next Generation: Kansas Virtual Health Care Career Day

In the News, Our Experts | 02/19/26

When more than 5,000 students across Kansas logged on for the Kansas Hospital Association’s 2026 Virtual Health Care Career Day, they weren’t just watching a presentation, they were stepping inside real hospital departments, hearing directly from professionals who live this work every day.

We are incredibly proud that the Kansas Hospital Association selected Wilson Medical Center as one of only eight featured hospitals to represent career pathways in health care. Even more special? Our very own Shawnna Shaffer, Director of Radiology, took center screen to showcase the world of radiology.

From imaging suites to patient-centered conversations, Shawnna gave students an authentic look at what it means to serve through precision, technology, and compassion. The feedback from students said it best: they valued hearing from “real health care professionals” and appreciated the straightforward, honest answers about preparing for their futures.

That’s exactly why we said yes.

At Wilson Medical Center, we believe rural hospitals have a powerful role in shaping tomorrow’s workforce. We are eager to open our doors, share our expertise, and encourage young Kansans who feel called to health care. If we can help one student see themselves in scrubs, behind a control panel, or guiding a patient through an exam, it’s worth it.

A sincere thank you to the Kansas Hospital Association for championing this event and for the steady, behind-the-scenes work you do to strengthen hospitals across our state. We are honored to stand alongside you in inspiring the next generation.
